What is your drink of choice?

I love a good dirty chai – a great blend of coffee and chai to start the day!

Tell us a little bit about yourself? 

I am married with two children, Curtis will be 9 this year and Ivy is 7. I am originally from Sydney but have spent the last 20 years in Canberra and we love it here! My background is Marketing and Real Estate but I have definitely now found my passion in helping Canberra mums look and feel amazing. 

Tell us about Motherly instincts and how it came to be?

 Motherly Instincts provides a wide range of high quality maternity and nursing clothing. I work hard to provide a calm and exciting environment for the new mums and the wonderful existing mums. I also offer a maternity formal wear hire service – great for that one off occasion or a maternity photo shoot.  I stock some of the big name brands like Ripe Maternity but also like to support smaller boutique Australian designers such as Mama Muse.

I offer ZipPay, After Pay and a free click and collect service.

When Curtis, my first baby, was 6 months old, I started working in the shop on a casual basis for the previous owner. She was looking to sell and I loved it so much that I decided to buy the business. Clearly, there is also a need for it in Canberra and I am happy I was able to continue helping Canberra Mums. I moved the business to a back room at our house and operated from there for 6 years. Once Ivy, my youngest, started school it was time for me to expand the business. I moved to Fyshwick in March 2019 and haven’t looked back! Watch this space to see what’s next!

Spread the word! If you love what I  do and what I have to offer, tell your friends, family, mothers group, share on social media and scream it from the rooftops!! Word of mouth is vital to my business and I am so appreciative to my loyal customers and those who recommend me to others. Always support local when you can – without my beautiful customers, Motherly Instincts wouldn’t exist. I also have an in store loyalty program to reward those who keep coming back. Every dollar you spend, earns you credit you can put towards your next purchase. 

Any advice for those wanting to turn their dream into a reality?

Find something you are passionate about and really love and take that leap! It’s not easy and there will be many hurdles along the way but also so many great moments that will make it all worthwhile. For me, that’s having a customer in the fitting room with tears of joy because of the way the clothes make her feel.
