What is your drink of choice?

Depending on the time of day, my drink of choice is either an almond flat white, or any red wine I can get my hands on haha.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your business? 

I am Racquel and I’m almost 26 (woohoo, iso birthday!), I’m a writer/artist/creative hybrid as well as a meditation teacher. I have a little online boutique with handmade & curated jewellery, tote bags, accessories, ebooks & art (+ thrifted goods coming soon).

Tell us about Rackers and how it came to be?

Rackers came about as a happy accident; I was studying an online course in Professional Writing in 2015 and started my blog as part of the course, to start sharing my writing publicly. I had turned to writing as a type of therapy and to help sort out my head, so my early work was primarily focused on grief. I had always wanted to be a writer but lacked a lot of self-belief, and beginning my blog helped grow both as a human and as a writer. When I moved back from Sydney in 2016, I started back at Uni to do a Bachelor of Writing. I was adamant to put off getting a ‘proper’ job during this time; my anxiety was quite bad at that point, and I really really didn’t want to work for someone else. I started creating things; art, painting on mugs, and turned to poetry a lot, and one day on a whim, I opened an online store. And so it blossomed from there! (Very slowly, though, it has taken a lot of hard work to get me here haha).

Eventually that also turned into creating art for other brands, and I taught myself graphic design so now one of my main services is custom art & logo/brand design.

Any advice for those thinking about turning their dream into a reality?

My best advice, and one you’ll hear over and over, is to justgo for it. Comparing my work – from when I very first started to now – is almost embarrassing. The fact that I started was what allowed me to continue to grow and to find my niche along the way. Also, don’t be afraid of changing it up. I’m so grateful for people sticking with me for the past three/four years as I have dabbled in different offerings, until I settled on what works for me (but honestly, it’s still everchanging).
