BOSS WOMAN 137 | SUGAR MOO
A PEACH ICED WITH MADDI FROM SUGAR MOO
What is your drink of choice? (doesn’t have to be alcoholic)I LOVE peach iced tea, but I can’t say no to a cheeky gin & tonic.
Tell us a little bit about yourself?I love the beach and all doggos, I’m obsessed. I enjoy cooking normal food but I definitely prefer the sweeter things in life. I have a crazy sweet tooth so it’s hard to not eat all of the leftovers (hence all the flash sales). I’d describe myself as friendly and caring.
Tell us about Sugar Moo and how it came to be
SugarMoo is my little baby, I love it. SugarMoo specialises in custom cakes, cookies, and cupcakes for any occasion and event. It was really a hobby that turned into a job! I’ve been baking goodies since I could walk. It was never fancy cakes, more along the lines of banana muffins and chocolate chip cookies. I remember making sugar cookies with fondant for my sister’s birthday in November 2019 and got so many compliments! I kept practicing and then when covid hit last year I finally had enough time to make a few cakes and made some goodies for my friends baby shower. My brother receommeded I try to sell my stuff, so we did a cookie photo shoot, made some business cards, started an Instagram page and it really just took off from there! It got super busy super quickly, I didn’t expect it to take off like it did, but I’m so grateful that it has.
How can we support Sugar Moo? Word of mouth is so powerful for advertising, especially in Canberra because it’s so small. I’m always very grateful when customers post about their goodies on their socials and tell their friends and family where they got it. It’s pretty much the reason SugarMoo is as busy as it is today! Of course – buying cakes, cupcakes, and cookies is also greatly appreciated.
Any advice for those who are thinking about turning their dreams into a reality?Honestly, just bite the bullet and do it! Reach out to people who are in the same industry and don’t be afraid to ask questions! They might have some extra knowledge and advice on how to get to where you’d like to go. You need to start making decisions and acting like you’ve already started your dream job, it’s all about manifesting what you want! It will be hard at times and there will be a lot of late nights but if it’s your dream, it’s worth it. I was so scared to start SugarMoo but it’s honestly one of the best things I’ve ever done!
