Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am a singer/songwriter/busy person and I perform and release my own music, as well as managing my own project “She’s on the Bill”, a series of gigs aimed at putting female/gender non conforming people on stages and behind the scenes all over Canberra.

Tell us about Sophie Edwards Music and how it came to be

I have been singing since I was really little, and started properly gigging when I was 16. I studied music at ANU, and then began writing and releasing music over the past 3 or so years. I am self managed, and noticed there were quite a few issues surrounding female representation, safety, and general comfort in the Canberra music scene, so alongside some other really amazing supportive people, I started “She’s on the Bill” to give more positive experiences to these emerging creatives.

How can we support Sophie Edwards Music?

I post lots of random snippets on Instagram @sophieedwardsmusic and @shesonthebill but the best way to support me/my project is by coming to the shows and sharing my music with your mates.

Any advice for those who are thinking about turning their dreams into a reality?I have found recently that the opportunities that I miss out on make me upset or jealous, but learning to channel that creatively or through organising even cooler events uses my creative energy so much more effectively. Never stop making opportunities for yourself! Also Canberra is the best place to connect with others but still be on a big enough stage to build something great.
