A PINOT NOIR WITH MIKEILA FROM BANDIT DESIGN
What is your drink of choice?
Tough choice between coffee and a good glass of pinot noir!
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m Mikeila, I am the owner and creative director of Bandit Design Group. I’m a creative, a do-er and I love to dig in and get my hands dirty.
I was born and raised in Canberra, living there my whole life until moving to Sydney three years ago.
Our team is based across Canberra and Sydney, so I am back and forth quite a bit – luckily I don’t mind the drive!
I studied graphic design and website design and development at UC where I found my passion for branding. After freelancing as a designer on the side of my full-time job for a solid three years, I finally decided to take the leap and take my business seriously, enter – Bandit.
As the owner and creative director, I am the wearer of many hats. I spend a lot of my time meeting with new clients, creating concepts and working with our amazing team to execute projects.
When I’m not working you’ll find me at the beach with our cavoodle Sunny, or on the couch binge-watching a trashy Netflix series.
Tell us about Bandit Design and how it came to be?
Bandit Design Group is a boutique creative studio based in Sydney & Canberra. We help businesses get locked and loaded on all things brand, web and packaging.
Arming businesses with the tools to launch into the market with a bang, we are passionate about creating brands with depth, life and meaningful stories behind them.
We are currently a small but mighty team of three. Our team is built with people from creative backgrounds and experience. We all share a love, appreciation, and understanding of all things design and business.
We have an amazing group of clients based all over Australia and overseas, spanning over so many different industries. We’re very lucky to work with some of our favourite business in Canberra like The Lab, Kate Lily Dressing Hair, High Definition Fitness and so many more. They’re all absolutely killing it in their space and we couldn’t be more proud and grateful to work alongside them.
Bandit wasn’t born spontaneously or on a whim, it was born on purpose from a planned out process. I knew for a long time I wanted to start my own studio, but I knew I needed to gain know-how and experience, so I proactively sought out the opportunities which would eventually get me there. After three years of freelancing, I had built a solid client base and finally turned my side gig into the real deal, officially launching Bandit in 2017.

Any advice for those wanting to turn their dream into a reality?
Put the fear of failing and all the excuses down and just give it a go. Life is too short to not be doing something you love.
