A TEA WITH ALYSSA FROM ZOVIA BEAUTY

What is your drink of choice?

Definitely a cuppa once the kids are asleep.

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Alyssa, I am 30 years old, a wife, a mum of 2 beautiful girls, Zoe and Olivia and the owner of Zovia Beauty + Cosmetic Tattooing. (My salon name was created from my daughters names)

Tell us about Zovia Beauty and how it came to be?

I have been in the beauty industry for 12 years and could never imagine doing anything else. The beauty industry is so specialized now, each person having their own area of expertise, mine is brows, I could literally do them all day and so I wanted this to be the main focus for my business. I’ve been a qualified beauty therapist for 12 years and have been doing cosmetic Tattooing for almost 4 years, since having tattooing hundreds and hundreds of beautiful faces. I have worked in many salons and day spas across the county in my time as a beauty therapist and after having my two girls a year apart I knew going back to work for someone just wasn’t going to work for us as a family, I always wanted my own salon, to do my own hours, to pick my own treatments and so I took the leap and opened my own little salon in a tiny, shared space in 2018. My business grew and grew into something I could never have imagined, and so, a few years on, I moved from my tiny little beauty room into my amazing salon In Griffith. I had a vision for my salon from the moment I saw the empty shop, over many late nights my amazing husband bought all of my ideas and love for styling to life and created my beautiful space.

Any advice for those who are thinking about turning their dreams into a reality?

Being my own boss is the best thing I have ever done, my work life balance is perfect, I have enough time to be a mum and enough time to work. I encourage anyone who wants to work for themselves to dream big, take the leap and make it work, you’ll never look back.
